We are hiring a Full-time Director, Facility Operations Position to join our Operations Facilities team for the Homewood Health Centre in Guelph and are looking for you. Hours of work: This is a full-time position; 70 hours bi-weekly

Reporting to the Executive Vice-President, Operations, the Director, Facilities Operations functions as the business leader for facilities management at a national level.  The Director is responsible for the overall strategy for the Maintenance, Housekeeping, Grounds, Security and Switchboard at a multi-site healthcare organization.
What the job entails:

  • Arrange, co-ordinate and monitor consistent service delivery by implementing robust processes and best practices.
  • Collaborates with others for the purpose of coordinating, implementing and monitoring facilities maintenance services.
  • Develops long and short range maintenance plans/programs (e.g. emergency response plans, energy management plans, annual budget, etc.) to ensure that resources are effectively utilized.
  • Directs projects (e.g. site repairs/construction, preventive maintenance, etc.) to ensure completion within established time frames, project design and budget.
  • Inspects new construction, repair work, projects, equipment, work orders, daily maintenance and supplies for the purpose of ensuring that jobs are completed efficiently; specifications for major capital improvements are within local/state/federal regulations; and approving inspection reports and payment requests.
  • Establishing and implementing departmental policies and procedures as well and resolving specific operational issues.
  • Accountable for well water – permit to take water and all required reporting.
  • Main point of contact for TSSA, Ontario One call, Migratory Bird Act.
  • Ensure compliance with designated substance control including Asbestos.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive Building Systems and Equipment Inventory for purposes of monitoring maintenance and replacement requirements.
  • Prepare documents for the purpose of tendering capital jobs when required.

Job Requirements

What we are looking for:

  • Experience at a Facilities Director Level position in a unionized environment.
  • Multi-year experience in a large health care facility (preferred).
  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Facilities, HVAC, Construction, Project Management or a suitable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Diploma, degree or certificate level training and experience in an engineering/technical field.
  • (5) to seven (7) years’ recent, related progressive supervisory and management experience in a large, complex unionized environment.
  • Extensive working knowledge in all aspects of building systems; heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems; security systems and accessibility.
  • Highly developed human relations skills, with the ability to communicate both orally and in writing at all levels of the organization, including regulatory officials, internal and external clients.
  • Experience in the procurement of construction and professionals services; contract preparation; execution and administration; and project cost control.
  • Effective decision-making skills, demonstrating innovation and results-oriented leadership and a strong customer service orientation.
  • Evidence of strong work ethic and demonstrated commitment to Homewood’s Mission and Values (Service Excellence, Innovation, Collaboration, Integrity).
