CITY OF MISSISSAUGA COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT RECREATION DIVISION FITNESS, AQUATICS AND THERAPEUTIC POOL SECTION requires Aquatic Therapeutic Instructors II Resumes are accepted year-round and positions are filled based on operational needs
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have a valid certification in the area of aquatic post rehabilitation instruction from a recognized organization with mandatory continuing education credits, and a valid Emergency First Aid / CPR “B” or “C” certification. (Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, St. John’s Ambulance or the Canadian Ski Patrol). Graduate of a B.Sc (P.T), B.Sc (H.K), Physiotherapist Assistant program or National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification is an asset. Candidate must have excellent public relations and people skills.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, or designate, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing Aquatic Therapeutic classes suited to meet the needs of the program participants that is fun, safe and technically sound and to meet the objectives and goals of the program. Specific duties include but are not limited to: Lead the designated class in a professional manner and create a safe and enjoyable climate. Plan and implement a comprehensive post rehabilitation class to meet the needs of all participants following the program outline as provided by the Aquatic Supervisor, or designate. Provide exercise instruction and supervision while effectively ensuring the safety of all participants. (permission to work at own pace, monitor heart rate throughout the class). Be ready to start the class at the advertised start time and finish within the allotted time. Maintain excellent public relations when dealing with all customers and share information about the Community Centre (as provided) to class participants. Provide information only in your area of expertise. Effectively and in a timely manner communicate any issues/ information that could impact the quality and safe delivery of the program to the Manager On Duty or your direct supervisor. Attend and participate in trainings and staff meetings as scheduled. Perform emergency procedures as required. Complete all online training modules, including Respectful Workplace, Understanding Accessible Customer Service, Violence in the Workplace and WHMIS. Read, understand and abide by all City Divisional Standards, Corporate Policies and Procedures, including Human Resources Policies, Respectful Employee Conduct, Health and Safety Regulations and Freedom of Information practices. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Hourly Rate:
$23.86-28.66/hour
Notes:
The duties and responsibilities of the Aquatic Therapeutic Instructor II are reflected in an hourly rate of pay as outlined in the part – time rate schedule. Staff will be paid on an hourly basis for attending required meetings or trainings at the Training / Meeting rate of pay. Staff will receive 4% vacation pay of total wages upon termination of employment or on or around the last pay of the year. Advancement to job rate is dependent on working a minimum of 6 months consecutively or a minimum of 280 hours and the ability to perform the job at a satisfactory level. Successful candidates must also demonstrate ongoing professional development, involvement in unit specific activities or promotions, attend staff meetings / trainings and receive a “meeting expectations” on a performance review. A Criminal Record Search will be required of the successful candidate, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
