Cape Breton Regional Hospital and affiliated sites are looking for full time Emergency Physicians (EP)s. We serve 130,000 people through a highly developed regional centre, providing a full range of secondary and tertiary services. Our Regional Hospital, the second largest regional hospital in Nova Scotia, served 41,138 people last year. We have 7 community and rural hospitals offering acute care, emergency and primary care services, increasing the number of visits to over 100, 000.
Job Duties: The EP is responsible for all patients who come in presenting for care; to supervise the medical and surgical care carried out in the ED, and to ensure complete emergency records which include a record of the pertinent history, physical findings, investigation and treatment completed; to record for each patient, if follow-up care by the Family Physician is necessary; to intervene with other patients in the Emergency Room if their condition is deteriorating and the nursing staff are concerned that the MRP will be delayed in assessing them; to oversee the Observation Room; to be aware of patients in the Observation Room and may exercise judgment as to whether further patients will be admitted there. Shifts are paid from $144.57-210.00/hour (site dependent), for up to 150 hours/month.
Candidates must be eligible for licensure in Nova Scotia and have certification in Emergency Medicine. Physicians with extensive Emergency Medicine experience with current ACLS, ATLS, PALS and Advanced Airway Training certification may also apply. Support is available for site visits and relocation.
