JOB SUMMARY Provide clinical oversight of resident care. Provide a liaison with other healthcare professionals. Facilitate a supportive relationship with residents/patients and families.

DUTIES & FUNCTIONS

1. Performs nursing care for residents on assigned shifts, including directing work assignments and making adjustments as necessary.

2. May act when required as a clinical resource to nursing staff, students and other members of the interdisciplinary team by mentoring, demonstrating procedures, answering questions related to clinical practice issues, and problem solving.

3. Assumes responsibility for required coordination in the event of an emergency situation.

4. Assumes a primary clinical responsibility for a designated unit and overall clinical responsibility when in charge for the entire facility as required day/afternoon shift/night shift and weekends reporting to Management for any operational needs.

5. Facilitates resolutions to resident/family/staff conflicts.

6. Assists with the collection of information to support Quality Improvement Programs and initiatives as required.

7. When working in charge may be required to replace staff, and coordinate the use of staff, equipment, and other resources under the direction of the Director of Care.

8. Creates and maintains a safe and healthy work environment.

9. Investigates accidents and incidents and initiates or completes the required reports.

10. Communicates policies and procedure changes to staff.

11. Supports new staff in the practice of nursing.

12. May act as the facility resource as required to resolve operational and clinical questions.

13. Acts as Occupational First Aid Level 1 Attendant as required.

14. Participates in the performance appraisal process for nursing and care staff by providing input to the manager on individual staff performances.

15. Maintains RAI coding competency as required.

17. Performs other related duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

– Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

-Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.

-Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

-Ability to operate related equipment.

-Ability to collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary team.

-Demonstrated ability to maintain supportive relationships with resident/patient families. -Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to facilitate conflict resolutions.

HEALTH & SAFETY

– Is aware of their rights and responsibilities and follow all health and safety policies and procedures.

– Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and residents.

– Is alert to and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations to immediate supervisor. 

– Promptly reports personal injury to supervisor and seeks first aid as needed.

– Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills, and knows the facility fire and disaster plan.

– Provides personal and environmental interventions to ensure resident/patient safety.
