Mental Hlth Therapist

Job Summary:
Lac la Biche is located in the scenic area of northeast Alberta and located in northeastern Alberta, approximately 210 kilometers from the provincial capital of Edmonton. With a mix of oil and gas, forestry and agriculture as well as an abundance of recreational and cultural amenities, the region provides opportunities and a lot of fun for the whole family in an area rich in cultural diversity and heritage.  Lac La Biche’s diverse landscape and is perfect for hunting, fishing and camping.

The Primary role of the therapist within the RCSD Model (Regional Collaborative Service Delivery) is to work with children, youth and their families and community partners to help support, treat and improve mental health symptoms.

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, a Mental Health Therapist will be able to:

–  Conducts comprehensive screening and mental status and bio-psychosocial assessments, including direct observation/examination through the collection of relevant data from the client and collateral sources.

–  Conduct an in-depth assessment for substantial disorder of thought, mood, perception, orientation or memory that impairs judgment, behavior and capacity to recognize reality or the client’s ability to meet the ordinary demands of life.

–  Gathers background and history to understand client’s current situation and needs (e.g. biographical data, social, medical, physical systems, family history, social function, mental status examination and risk assessment).

–  Assesses client’s coping skills and resources, exploring family and social support systems.

–  Formulates a provisional diagnosis and implements immediate interventions as required based on critical analysis and synthesis of the assessment data gathered.

–  Shares the provisional diagnosis and intervention plan, as appropriate, with the multiple disciplinary teams.

–  Prepare individualized treatment plans with the client and other relevant treatment supports to meet both their immediate and future needs through established goals.

–  Implement a wide range of treatment interventions (individual psychotherapies, family therapy, group therapy, supportive therapy, risk management, crisis intervention and case management according to the established recovery plan.

–  Performs Psychosocial Intervention to treat a substantial disorder of thought, mood, perception, orientation or memory that impairs judgment, behavior, and capacity to recognize reality or ability to meet ordinary demands of life.

Qualifications:
You have a Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology or Nursing with two years recent experience in Mental Health; an OT or Nursing degree with 5 years recent experience; or you are an RN or RPN with 7 years recent experience in mental health. Equivalencies may be considered.

In addition, a strong working knowledge of psychiatric disorders is essential. You will have recent experience in conducting intake assessments, dealing with clients in crisis. You have knowledge and experience in individual counseling and the ability to use a variety of treatment modalities, including brief therapy, single session/walk in and case management. Current registration with the appropriate professional college. A valid driver’s license and your own transportation is required. You are a self-directed, highly motivated individual with exceptional leadership, organizational and problem-solving skills. As an active and supportive team member, you have excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently. Current BCLS-HCP certification is required.
