Therapy Assistant

Job Summary:
The SHC is more than just a “hospital”.  It is a campus environment and will include inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community.  The campus will also include a YMCA and retail services.

The SHC has four key pillars of service:  Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation.  These pillars are guiding the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC.

The Allied Health Department works collaboratively with all the clinical teams spread across the South Health Campus.

The primary caseload for this position is in Orthopedics.  Under general direction of the Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists or Speech and Language Pathologists and the Allied Health Assistant Manager, the Therapy Assistant provides direct patient care as well as department support functions.

This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and or equipment.

The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations.

Please note these positions involve weekend shifts as per rotations.

Qualifications:
– Must have Certification or Diploma from a recognized Therapy Assistant program.
– ThAAA membership / certification preferred.
– Evidence of recent experience or continuing education in at least one of the clinical areas, preferred.
– BCLS-HCP for Health Care Providers Level C.
– Demonstrated knowledge of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology.
– Effective self management skills and demonstrated initiative.
– Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team of health care professionals.
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
– Basic computer skills required.
