Our Occupational/Physiotherapy Assistant’s Main Duties Include:

  • Implement and develops individual therapy program and activities, to meet the client’s therapy goals set by Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist, both in clinic, in schools and at client’s homes as requested.
  • Maintenance of clinical documentation in the form of electronic progress notes following every therapy session and interaction with clients and families.
  • Development and modification to written group programming as needed
  • Provision of small group sessions on-site to work with clients for social, motor and/or sensory processing difficulties
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the OT/PT Supervisor, to assist the clinic and therapy team.
  • Ability to offer weekends and/or evenings to provide flexible schedule for client and families
  • Travel between clinic sites

Succeeding as an Occupational/Physiotherapy Assistant will require the following core qualifications and skills:

  • Diploma for both Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist Assistant from a recognized provincial college required
  • Clinical experience with pediatrics for occupational and physiotherapy.
  • Experience with sensory integration would be an asset
  • Working with children who have a variety of clinical diagnosis
  • Assists in the clinical management and supervision of OTA’s on clients
  • Extensive knowledge of occupational therapy theory, principles, procedures and treatment techniques
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of various paediatric therapies
  • Sound clinical and professional judgment consistent with accepted models of practice, with demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize workload and adapt to a changing caseload
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with customer service-orientation; skilled in providing empathy, support and critical analysis in complex clinical and sensitive situations
  • Strong teamwork skills in the areas of mentoring, motivation and creative problem-solving
  • Reliable and self-directed, with good critical thinking, judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working independently as well as liaising with the inter-professional team
  • Excellent organizational skills required
  • Excellent written communication skills and competency in using electronic charting systems
  • Must be able to work weekends and evenings
  • Satisfactory attendance and performance required
  • Willingness to participate in working groups and clinical initiatives
