Child Psychiatrist

We are seeking child psychiatrists to work full time or part time within a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals at CASA Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health.  CASA has over 20 programs, which include general assessment clinics, day treatment programs, residential care, infant and preschool services, family therapy, addiction and mental health services, and trauma and attachment programs to name a few.  The child psychiatrist provides assessment, treatment and follow-up care for children up to the age of 18 years and their families and caregivers.  The programs offer a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions including psychopharmacology, individual and family therapy, parent education and support groups, filial play therapy and guided parent-child interaction.

Candidates must hold an MD with specialist certification (FRCPC) in Psychiatry and / or Subspecialty certification in Child Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or equivalent. Candidates must also be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Compensation:

Medical Liability Reimbursement – reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education – reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program – provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program – addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.

The incumbent will be involved with education of medical students and residents and will be considered for an academic appointment with the University of Alberta, Department of Psychiatry.   In addition, there are opportunities to participate in research activities.
