Job Summary:
These are 3 full time, permanent positions, working 75 hours bi-weekly in Whitehorse, Dawson City, and Watson Lake, Yukon.

Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health Services, these positions are responsible for conducting mental health assessments and developing and implementing treatment plans to clients with serious, persistent mental illnesses in Whitehorse and rural Yukon.   In Whitehorse, the nurse works on a multi-disciplinary team to serve clients with a serious, persistent mental illness.  In rural Yukon, the nurse works collaboratively with Community Health Centers and Mental Health Support Workers residing in communities where there are identified clients with a serious persistent mental illness to deliver treatment plans. Additional clinical roles in rural Yukon include providing counselling and support to clients who do not have a serious, persistent mental illness, but who require a clinical intervention.

This position has a significant consultant and educator role, especially in rural Yukon as it is one of three mental health nursing positions providing direction about mental health related topics to professionals and the public in rural Yukon communities. This position participates in the training of other human service providers and in the overall planning of mental health services in Yukon Territory.

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing combined with coursework in mental health or a psychiatric nursing degree/diploma
  • Experience in providing assessment, treatment, and support services to clients with serious, persistent mental illnesses
  • Experience providing assessment and counseling to individuals who present with a range of mental health presentations and other issues (ie. Depression, anxiety, substance use problems, relationship issues etc.

Candidates who meet the educational requirements, but have limited training, and/or experience may be considered on an underfill basis.

  • Ability to work autonomously and also within a multi-disciplinary team that is spread out over several rural communities

Conditions of Employment: TB Testing, security clearance with vulnerable sectors, valid Yukon class 5 driver’s license, eligibility for registration with YRNA
Job Requirements: Willingness to travel extensively, up to as much as 50% of the time
