Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager, provides assistance to other staff on professional practice standards within the designated discipline and on practice issues relevant to the values and strategic directions of the organization and for supporting activities of staff to be consistent with Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) and Home and Community Care priorities. Participates in the development of guidelines, systems and instruments for achieving and maintaining professional standards throughout the continuum of health services in Home and Community Care. Ensures that standards are understood and monitored.  Acts as a resource to staff for professional consultation and direction to address practice specific issues. The Community Practice Resource collaborates with colleagues in other disciplines to ensure appropriate staff development and participation in education, research, accreditation, utilization management and continuous quality improvement initiatives within VIHA portfolios and other jurisdictions.

Qualifications

A. Education, Training and Experience

Baccalaureate degree in Physiotherapy from a recognized university. Licensed to practice with the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia required. Three (3) years of recent related practical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  Knowledge of discipline specific therapeutic principles, practices and procedures and their application to an in-home environment.  Knowledge of pertinent legislation, policies, gerontological issues and standards.  Valid B.C. Driver’s license.

  • Ability to provide leadership to staff and peers.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational and teaching skills.
  • Ability to communicate with clients and their families, physicians and colleagues from within the VIHA as well as external organizations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Travel is a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority.
