Unit Summary The Michael G. DeGroote Adult Pain Clinic is an outpatient interdisciplinary clinic providing service for the assessment and treatment of chronic pain. The Michael G. DeGroote Adult Pain Clinic is the largest university-affiliated pain centre in Canada. The main objectives are disability reduction, lifestyle modification, psychological adaptation, decreased healthcare utilization, increased independence and focus on wellness. The program employs a combination of rehabilitative, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic therapeutic approaches. The purpose is to deal with clients’ adjustment difficulties to their chronic pain problems, through individual case management, a daily structured quota-based fitness program, nutritional counseling, implemented by a mix of well trained specialized health professionals. 
Position Summary

 As a member of the Michael G. DeGroote Adult Pain Clinic, the Physiotherapist coordinates, assesses and evaluates patient care and provides physiotherapy care to meet the needs of the acute and chronic pain population. The Physiotherapist collaborates with interdisciplinary team members throughout the program. Supporting the self management model of care for chronic disease management the Physiotherapist will work with patients and families in developing treatment pathways that best support optimizing function for the patient. The Physiotherapist will also be involved in facilitating educational sessions within the program. 

Schedule Work Hours Weekdays; Weekends; days/evenings

 

This position is temporary until October 2017.

 

Qualifications

 1. Graduate of an approved university graduate level physiotherapy program (BSc. PT, MSc. PT) or equivalent
2. Current registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
3. Recent (3 years) of relevant experience in physiotherapy assessment and treatment planning in an out-patient setting preferred
4. Well developed physiotherapy assessment & treatment skills relevant to the Chronic Pain population
5. Relevant chronic pain experience and working with mental health patients
6. Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal skills and effective discharge planning skills and knowledge of community resources and supports
7. Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating within an inter-professional healthcare team
8. Participation in continuing education in order to upgrade skills and keep abreast of new developments in physiotherapy practice related to the care of the across the spectrum of ages with Chronic Pain.
9. Demonstrated ability to work in a changing environment with high productivity, organizational and flexibility demands with solid clinical reasoning and caseload management skills
10. Experience with program development
11. Experience facilitating educational presentations.
12. Comfortable working in individual and groups patient settings
13. Experience in vestibule physiotherapy
