Job Summary: | |
This position performs manual and automated approved laboratory procedures and related duties following established standards and practices defined by the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA), College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and Health Professions Act (HPA). | |
Qualifications: | |
– Must have CMLTA Registration and an MLT Practice Permit and evidence of the appropriate CSMLS certification (e.g. General, Diagnostic, Cytology, or Clinical Genetics). Employers retain the discretion to request CSMLS certification. – Experience in performing procedures in a variety of laboratory disciplines including Transfusion Medicine is desired. – Basic computer skills required. – Extensive use of computers may cause eyestrain. – Work well with patients and all members of the Health Center team. – Demonstrated strong organizational skills. – Demonstrated effective communication skills. – Works under pressure in emergency situations. – Work independently, efficiently, effectively, and accurately in a fast paced working environment. – Exercises good judgment when decisions must be made. – Demonstrated team skills. – Adapts to change and is flexible. – Frequent physical demands include walking, standing, bending, lifting, and hand movements. – Works a variety of shifts, weekends and on call as required. |

– Regulated health professions under the Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to provide an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties with AHS.
– Other professions governed by government acts, college or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation.
