Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Provides primary nursing care to the patients assigned to him/her, including treatment, medications, teaching, psychosocial support, developmental interventions, Plan of Cares, and other duties deemed necessary for the smooth and safe operation of the facility. The LPN works under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.
- Conducts physical assessments; documentation; developmental assessment; respiratory treatment; vital signs; enteral or oral feedings; ostomy care; dressings and skin care; proper positioning and orthotics applications; medications by oral, g-tube, phlebotomy and IV therapy (only if successful completion of certified IV therapy course); and any other interventions ordered by a physician that are within the scope of the nursing license.
- Provides formal and informal teaching directed to parent/patient/guardian regarding all aspects of the child’s care, including treatment; equipment use and maintenance; stress reduction; health maintenance; rehabilitation; and any other medical, nursing, psychosocial, or developmental needs. The staff nurse researches topics for which parents desire/need information, creates reference files for future use, and provides parents with written materials and models to facilitate teaching.
- Provides proper positioning; therapeutic play appropriate to age level; educational activities as appropriate; implementing therapy care plan as written by the physiotherapist; providing a loving and nurturing environment for the child.
- Responsible for the observation of parent/child interactions and parental involvement with the child‘s care; is available to parents for listening and providing positive support; making referrals to Social Workers or Psychologist as needed.
- Attends all appropriate staff meetings and case meetings; knows all consultants and what the scope of their function is; communicates freely and concisely via verbal or written means to all members of the health care team; knows all community resources and makes referrals as necessary.
- Keeps an attractive and professional appearance, and adheres to the dress code; communicates politely with others and uses no profanity; knows and adheres to the Standards for Person-Centered Caring; reads current research and literature related to this field, and always strives to update knowledge base; relates to parents on a personal, but professional level.
- Knows and reviews all TCC/TCMS policies and procedures; knows all patient histories and reviews patient’s Protocols of Cares on a regular basis, (Q3-Months); knows all emergency procedures, including CPR and fire drills; knows policies for use of all TCC medical and administrative forms; knows how to use the telephone, security system, and intercoms.
- Keeps patient areas neat and clean and free of safety hazards; keeps common areas neat, clean and free of debris; checks patient’s toys and equipment regularly for safety; is familiar with the safe operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all equipment in the facility; knows fire safety codes and how to use the fire alarm, security system, and fire extinguishers; does all laundry and dishes as needed, separates medical trash for proper disposal as per code; empty garbage as needed (and daily); strictly adheres to Infection Control Policies and Procedures; documents unusual incidents on the Incident Report Form; ensures the safety of parents and other visitors; protects self from injury and infection while at work; transports patients as assigned; orientates new employees as assigned.
Required experience:
- Pediatric experience: 2 years
