Medical Receptionist/Transcriptionist

JOB SUMMARY:

Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, reporting administratively to the Manager, works as a member of an integrated team and plays a significant role in ensuring that clients/patients have a positive experience with the designated services within a fast paced, high volume clinic environment. Functions include scheduling and booking appointments, typing technical and non-technical material, maintaining filing and computerized patient/client/client database systems and processing a variety of requisitions.Transcribes and types a variety of medical dictation and other documentation such as discharge summaries, medical consultations and correspondence utilizing the departments database, computerized equipment and intermediate wordprocessing software from written drafts, revisions or dictating machines. Edits transcribed material for stylistic consistency and accuracy of content. Performs other clerical and reception functions such as responding to work status enquiries, receiving visitors and patients, recording physician patient visits into patient care information system, registering new patients, answering incoming calls, preparing and maintaining patient files, inputting a variety of patient information into an established computerized database system, maintaining and formatting records of clinic activities for statistical purposes utilizing intermediate spreadsheet software, investigating and performing corrections to computerized patient information, and photocopying, faxing and distributing reports in accordance with established procedures as required to support the delivery of patient care and to ensure client/family needs are met above all other concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12, graduation from an approved program in medical transcription.
  • One (1) year’s recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to type 60 words per minute.
  • Ability to record and transcribe minutes at meetings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with other effectively.
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
