JOB SUMMARY:

Vancouver Coastal Health Mental Health and Addictions Services is committed to collaborating with consumers and families to build on strengths, talents and interests in order to foster a community of hope, growth and self-determination.
Within the context of a client and family-centred Recovery model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, the Canadian Association for Music Therapy Code of Ethics and the vision and values of the organization, position develops, implements, and evaluates client treatment plans and provides music therapy to promote, maintain, and restore client’s mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and approved research, provides formal and informal consultations to other staff/community music therapists and supervises and evaluates the work activities of music therapy practicum students and interns. Collaborates with the Patient Services Manager regarding operational issues and concerns and with the Regional Allied Health Practice Director, and the Regional Music Therapy Council for practice issues and concerns.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
- Completion of a program accredited by the Canadian Association of Music Therapy.
- Two years’ recent related experience.
- Eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT).
Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
- Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation methodology.
- Demonstrated ability to provide music therapy to clients in an acute, rehabilitation and/or continuing care settings.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated proficiency in piano, guitar and voice.
- Broad knowledge of music therapy theory and practice.
- Broad knowledge of harmony, theory and history.
- Broad knowledge of symptoms, problems and needs associated with disabilities and illnesses.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict situations.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate and coach.
- Comprehensive knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
- Broad knowledge of the range of improvisation styles.
- Broad knowledge of solo and ensemble playing, composition and conducting.
- Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
- Basic computer literacy with word processing and database skills.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
