Nemours is seeking a Physical Therapist to join our Outpatient Therapy Services team in Wilmington, DE.

Provides physical therapy evaluation, treatment and consultation independently to typical patients within a program under the prescription of a physician and within the guidelines designated by departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Expands knowledge of less-common populations seen within the program through mentorship and educational opportunities.

Anticipated caseload will consist mostly of pediatric and adolescent patients with a variety of sports and orthopedic diagnoses. Primary location for treatment will be in the Center for Sports Medicine at AIDHC, working collaboratively with sports medicine physicians, surgeons, athletic trainers and other therapists as part of the interdisciplinary sports medicine team.

Essential Functions

Direct Patient Care Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: pediatrics, adolescents and adults; completes at least 95% of Level I PT competencies.
  2. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of neonates as required by assignment.
  3. Evaluates patients for physical therapy treatment, including positioning, adaptive equipment, home programs, home accessibility, etc. Independently provides and coordinates age-appropriate physical therapy treatment plans, treatment and consultation in typical patient care situations.
  4. Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy #4.7, The Joint Commission and CARF standards. Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member.
  5. Consults with other services, families and outside agencies to recommend equipment, home or school modifications, transition of care, etc.
  6. Maintains knowledge of insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.

Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities

  1. Staff Development: Assesses existing and develops new activities that promote general knowledge and professionalism within the department; participates in peer review process. Attends inservices/continuing education, and provides updates in the form of inservices to associates.
  2. CQI: Participates in program, discipline, specialty and hospital-wide CQI projects.
  3. Assessment and Treatment: Contributes to discipline and program committees to enhance patient care; assists in assessing current procedures and assists in developing methods of improvement related to patient care.
  4. Program Development: Participates in activities to increase program use, awareness and marketing in meeting goals of the department. Attends monthly program meetings.
  5. Clinical Education: Assists in mentoring affiliating physical therapy students, new physical therapy staff, support personnel and volunteers. Adequately and appropriately provides PTA supervision.
  6. Teamwork: Participates in single-discipline, multi-disciplinary and specialty teams.
  7. Professional Development: Develops ties with professional organizations. Provides educational inservices and experiences to the discipline/program and outside community. Attends physical therapy meetings as scheduled in the hospital. May participate in promotional activities for physical therapy and/or hospital.
  8. Weekend Rehab Rotation: Checks crash cart per hospital policy.

Education, Area of Study, Training and Experience

Education, Training, Experience

  1. B.S. or higher degree, or certificate of proficiency in Physical Therapy, DPT is required entry-level.
  2. Two years or more experience preferred.

Other Requirements

  1. Strong multi-specialty knowledge and experience as related to pediatrics.
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Strong teaching and interpersonal skills.

Licenses, Registrations or Certifications

License, Registration or Certification

  1. Delaware State License to practice Physical Therapy.
  2. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification within 6 months of employment.
  3. CSCS, ATC, SCS certification or equivalent preferred.
