Physician Engagement Specialist
The successful candidate will possess a university degree in Health Sciences with a focus on health promotion, or a degree in public or business administration and three to five (3-5) years of experience related to health promotion, project management, facilitation/partnership building, and/or marketing/communications. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience with physician engagement/outreach and physician recruitment/retention as well as strong marketing/communications skills. Superior communication skills are required to be effective in a variety of situations including interactions with key external partners. The candidate must have knowledge of Ontario’s health care system, Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs), the structure of primary care, medical practice issues, incentive and recruitment programs, as well as knowledge of medical education and licensing for family physicians and specialists. Knowledge of relevant provincial legislation and public health policy developments as they relate to physician practice in Halton would be considered an asset. Training in Academic Detailing or Clinical Outreach Education and membership with the Canadian Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (CASPR) is a definite asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Working Conditions:
The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six 6 months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment. The i ncumbent must provide their own transportation and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license by their first day of employment.
Duties:
· Recommend enhancements to the Health Department’s physician engagement efforts as part of strengthening the Department’s relationship with health care providers in Halton.
· Engage Halton’s physicians and health care providers and recommend program design improvements to respond to changing needs and to meet specific health professional outreach and education standards prescribed for Public Health.
· Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive outreach strategy and recruitment/retention program that incorporates continuous quality improvement efforts and addresses priority areas and program objectives.
· Collaborate with staff in developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating communication and outreach strategies for physicians and health care professionals.
· Create and maintain physician outreach materials, including physician-related website content.
· Promote Halton Region to prospective family physicians, as well as raise awareness of Health Department programs and services available to support local physicians in their practice.
· Support recruitment of new physicians to Halton.
· Manage physician contact/distribution lists for timely and effective information dissemination.
· Lead Health Department physician learning opportunities such as planning/delivering Continuing Medical Education (CME) events targeted to physicians.
· Act as a liaison at physician events/forums.
· Work closely with established family physicians, medical clinics, and hospitals to promote practice opportunities to prospective physicians.
· Support staff in the development of policies and procedures as they relate to physician engagement, recruitment, and retention practices.
· Maintain networks with community of practice and other related physician engagement professionals.
