Who We Are:
Mount Newton Centre is a non-profit health centre dedicated to providing the people of the Saanich Peninsula – particularly seniors – with the help they need to stay active, independent, healthy and safe in their own homes.
For registered seniors, we offer a VIHA-funded, day-long Adult Day Program that includes:
- medical monitoring and supervision by our own RNs
- bathing and personal care
- exercise, games and social activities
- a hot noon meal and healthy snacks
- transportation to and from the Centre in our own purpose-built bus.
Our all-day Saturday Respite Program also includes community outings whenever possible.
For house-bound seniors, we provide an at-home, RN-delivered MICRO-check program to administer medications and monitor their conditions. For anyone in our catchment area, we also offer:
- blood pressure clinics
- safe, easy-access bath tubs and personal care
- a podiatrist to look after common and complex foot problems, and
- a Medical Equipment Loan Service.
The majority of our services are independently funded by generous donations from clients, families, friends and community organizations. We add to this funding through community fund-raising initiatives.
Job Summary:
Reporting to a volunteer Board of Directors, the Executive Director assists in developing strategies, goals and policies for the Centre as well as providing day-to-day operational management. This includes:
- managing staff (nine full-time, four part-time, 12 casual on call, including RNs and HCAs, bus drivers, cook and bookkeeper)
- supervising client-care services
- preparing budgets
- organizing fund-raising activities
- fostering effective working relationships with volunteers, the community, health professionals, other health agencies and Government.
Education, Training, Skills and Experience:
- Graduate of recognized nursing program.
- Current, practising registration with College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia.
- Several years of senior management in a non-profit organization.
- Diversified experience in all aspects of management.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to organize workload and set priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including co-workers, clients, families, volunteers, physicians, case managers, home nursing care workers, physio and occupational therapists, community groups and organizations.
