Renal Exercise Therapist
Position Profile: The Renal Exercise Therapist will provide a structured exercise program for dialysis patients. Research demonstrates a number of potential benefits that HD patients may achieve from exercise. It has been shown to prevent falls and improve dialysis efficiency as well as other benefits such as improvement in functional capacity, cardiac performance and increase of quality of life.
The Renal Exercise Therapist is primarily responsible for delivering safe and therapeutically beneficial exercise program in a consistent, ethical, and impactful manner. Through personalized delivery, education, and coaching, the Renal Exercise Therapist ensures that the clients receive effective treatments and the service standards are maintained.
Qualifications:
1. Baccalaureate Degree in Kinesiology required.
2. Must be registered and in good standing with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario (RKin).
3. Minimum one year experience as an Exercise Therapist required.
4. Previous experience working with dialysis patients strongly preferred.
5. General computer skills required (knowledge of email and internet).
6. Experience using MS Word, Excel at a beginner level required.
7. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal required, with an ability to communicate with patients and all levels of staff including physicians and external stakeholders.
8. Strong interpersonal skills and a proven commitment to interprofessional collaboration.
9. Effective time management skills with a high degree of organization and attention to detail.
10. Demonstrated commitment to flexibility and adaptability within the framework of providing patient and family centred care.
11. Satisfactory attendance record.
