Staff Physiotherapist
The Staff Physiotherapist focuses on promoting physical function, fitness and motor performance to contribute to a client’s/patient’s overall cognitive, perceptual, social and emotional well-being and works within the context of a client/patient and family centered care model within Children’s & Women’s Health Centre, a Provincial Resource Centre. The Staff Physiotherapist uses knowledge of musculosketetal growth and development, biomechanics of human movement, kinesiology, pathology, cardio-respiratory function and neurology to provide therapeutic, clinical, diagnostic and preventative services to clients, families and the community to develop functional solutions for the day-to-day issues in the lives of clients/patients and their various environments. The Staff Physiotherapist also participates in education and research activities.
Example of Duties/Accountabilities
- Provides Physiotherapy assessment and treatment in accordance with established standards to develop functional solutions for the day-to-day issues in the lives of clients/patients and their various environments by performing duties such as assessing needs, planning, implementing and evaluating a treatment program for an individual client/patient or a group of client(s)/patient(s) in various environments.
- Documents information including relevant clinical data, assessments, treatment plans and progress reports and outcomes.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary groups and/or teams including members such as physicians and nursing staff by performing duties such as providing clinical input and suggestions related to the management of the referred client/patient group of clients/patients to ensure that quality of care is delivered.
- Assists clients/patients and families to obtain specific equipment to meet the individual needs of the client/patient by performing duties such as communicating both verbally and in writing with agencies regarding the specific needs of the client/patient and requesting funding and liaising with suppliers regarding equipment needs.
- Maintains communication with clients/patients and families and/or caregivers in order to foster optimal progress for the client through methods such as establishing and maintaining supportive, collaborative and therapeutic relationships. Participates on professional committees/teams and designated programs through methods such as attending meetings, providing written reports as it relates to the referred clients/patients and to facilitate the resolution of issues and advocate for the goals and objectives of the specific clients/patients.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience
- Baccalaureate Degree in Physiotherapy or Rehabilitation Sciences and/or licensure with the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia.
