What we need:

As a member of our interprofessional team, you will be responsible for providing assessment consultation and education to the patient, family members and the interprofessional team in the Fracture and WSIB Occupational Health Assessment and Speciality Clinic at Markham Stouffville Hospital’s Markham site. In this role you will utilize your goal-orientated, client centered approach to care. You will help patients achieve their maximum range of movement and physical ability. Working with an interprofessional team, you will assist in optimizing the mobility of patients in this outpatient setting.

Within the WSIB program you will provide evidence based recommendations for health care services that will support workers to achieve their unique recovery and return to work goals. With your comprehensive experience of practice you will guide community treatment to ensure surgeon’s recommendations for treatment are being implemented and effective.

What you will achieve with us:

  • Provides patient care following current accepted standards of practice and principles of physiotherapy in the assessment, treatment and education of patients, and maintains liaison with other members of the health care team concerning the progress of patients
  • Independent and collaborative patient care such as radiographic (x-ray) knowledge and ability to read an x-ray
  • Carries out administrative duties consisting of: keeping statistics of productivity, ensuring patient and staff safety, attending staff meetings, involvement in program development and implementation, quality improvement initiatives and quality assurance activities
  • Maintains liaison and team approach with other members of the team (internal and external members i.e. return to work specialists)
  • Maintains personal professional growth through in-service education and literature review
  • Assumes a leadership role in influencing clinical practice and patient outcomes and collaborates with health care team and community partners regarding complex and challenging patient care situations.

Work Schedule:

Work schedule involves 4 and 8 hour week day shifts on a casual basis. Schedule is subject to change based on operational demands.

Compensation:

$33.04-$45.81 per hour

What you bring to MSH:

  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, in good standing
  • Completion of a Master of Science in Physiotherapy preferred
  • Previous experience with fracture clinic patient population
  • Previous experience with surgical, rehab and emergency patient populations is an asset
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Ability to assess and analyse clinical findings in order to develop treatment plans appropriate for the patient’s condition
  • Orthopaedic and/or chronic musculo-skeletal assessment experience
  • Experience conducting research an asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the members of the interprofessional team, including support staff
  • Good computer skills and experience with electronic documentation preferred
  • Evidence of continuing education and ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
