An exciting Regular Full-Time opportunity as a Physiotherapist exists in the Family Practice Health Centre reporting to the Executive Director of the Women’s College Hospital Family Health Team. The Physiotherapist will use a patient centered approach to collaborate within the multi-disciplinary team at Women’s College Hospital to provide effective assessments and treatments of issues common to general physiotherapy.

Summary of Duties, but not limite d to:

  • Responsible for the comprehensive assessment of clients and diagnosis of MSK conditions
  • Establishes and carries through treatment plans to meet the needs of a large, diverse primary care population; addressing the needs of clients across the lifespan and for various conditions (i.e. older adults, OA, low back pain, post-injury rehab, chronic pain, exercise prescription, OB, etc.)
  • Responsible for the ongoing evaluation and revision of treatment plants, including adding up to date modalities when deemed suitable (Treatment plans may include, education, self-management, health promotion and disease prevention).
  • Delivers evidence- based education and treatment to clients in both individual and group settings.
  • Leads the development and evaluation of PT program(s) in the Family Health Team in conjunction with Program Coordinator/ Executive Director and other stakeholders. Participates in existing programs in the Family Health Team.
  • Collaborates with other members of the health care team as needed.
  • Provides education to colleagues on discipline-specific clinical care.
  • Actively participates in programs and initiatives, participates in Quality Improvement projects; critically evaluates research and best practices.
  • Participates in the educational experiences of all students assigned to the FHT (i.e., Residents, Nursing students, dietetic interns, Ryerson Students, U of T Masters in Nutrition Students, etc). This also includes the responsibility of introducing new pertinent information to the medical and paramedical staff and their committees.
  • Attends and participates in medical rounds, educational workshops, and seminars as part of the PT’s continuing education responsibility.
  • Maintains current accurate clinical records according to standards set by the College of Physiotherapists. Documents assessment results, goals, treatment, and client progress.
  • Maintains and upgrades skills and knowledge through continuing education
  • Maintains workload measurement system statistics according to profession standards
  • Hours expected to be flexible to meet patient needs and to coincide with the hours of the Family Health Team

As a role model and champion you will work to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Licensed to practice by, and a member in good standing of College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Masters in Physiotherapy; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years broad experience post-completion of an accredited, entry-to-practice program in physical therapy
  • The ideal candidate would be self-motivated and directed, with a patient-centred, women’s health approach to care. The candidate must be an excellent communicator with good computer and technical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize caseload to maximize access for patients
  • Experience working in an inter-professional team in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Experience working in ambulatory/ outpatient/ primary care setting
  • Experience working with obstetrical population or desire to train in this area
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as an interdisciplinary team member.

  • Provision of comprehensive care in an interdisciplinary team

With your comprehensive experience of practice you will guide community treatment to ensure surgeon’s recommendations for treatment are being implemented and effective.

What you will achieve with us:

  • Provides patient care following current accepted standards of practice and principles of physiotherapy in the assessment, treatment and education of patients, and maintains liaison with other members of the health care team concerning the progress of patients
  • Independent and collaborative patient care such as radiographic (x-ray) knowledge and ability to read an x-ray
  • Carries out administrative duties consisting of: keeping statistics of productivity, ensuring patient and staff safety, attending staff meetings, involvement in program development and implementation, quality improvement initiatives and quality assurance activities

The Physiotherapist, under the direction of the Clinical Manager, is responsible for completion of professional activities that include: assessment, treatment, education, and management of clients requiring Physiotherapy intervention, in accordance with professional standards.

Tales like these are emerging from across Quebec as the province grapples with a growing labour crunch.

“This is the kind of thing we will see more and more of, unfortunately,” said Jean-Guy Côté, associate director of the Institut du Québec, a public policy think tank.

“This is a new reality for the last year.”

Quebec has, in a sense, become a victim of its own success.

With the economy chugging along, the unemployment rate has in recent months been hovering around six per cent, nearly the lowest it’s been since Statistics Canada began keeping track in 1976. Read more…
